Bio

Ioanna Farsari is an Assistant Professor at Dalarna University, School of Technology and Business studies, Tourism Group, in Sweden and a researcher at the Center for Tourism and Leisure Research (CeTLeR) at the same University. Before that she was an Assistant Professor at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Greece.

She holds a PhD in sustainable tourism policy and complexity from the University of Surrey UK (2007), a M.Sc. in Leisure and the Environments from Wageningen University, the Netherlands (2000), and a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from the department of Environmental Science, of the University of the Aegean, in Lesvos, Greece (1995).

She has long experience on sustainable development projects funded by national and European sources and has worked as a consultant in several projects. Dr Farsari has lectured extensively on policy and planning, sustainable tourism development, research methods, and environmental protection.

She has published on international scientific journals, and edited books. She has been an evaluator for research proposals of EU and a thematic expert in committees and boards.

Her research interests include sustainable tourism development and planning, tourism policy, sustainable tourism indicators, complex adaptive systems, cognitive mapping, education for sustainability, social representations and nature-based tourism.
