Title of lecture

Selfie as photographic genre, cultural artefact and social practice

The constantly improving camera facilities of the smart phones and the increasing popularity of the social media platforms created over the last years an environment where the self-portrait – selfie – became one of the most popular type of visual self-representation. The presentation will explore the selfie from multiple perspectives, focusing on the transformation of the photographic genre, its representational function and the effects on the social practices.
