Study abroad: studenten aan het woord

Je twijfelt of je een deel van het studie in het buitenland wil lopen?
Laat je overtuigen door een aantal buitenlandse studenten die dit academiejaar studeren aan de Erasmushogeschool Brussel.

Susana Wan:,,I am from Lisbon, Portugal, and I have to say this is surprisingly a great adventure! Everyday we encounter different challenges, hearing a different language in each corner we pass, trying to survive for the first time on our own (at least for me). The best thing until now was the fact that I met great people, friendly, helpful people in every single situation/moment that I've been since I got here. It's difficult to be away from home, in a new environment, where nothing seems to 'fit', but still THIS makes it feel all better! Enjoying each moment, each experience, each friendship!'

Martijn Jacobs:,,I don't regret it at all that I have chosen to study abroad this semester. When the opportunity was there to go abroad I realized this would be a great chance to develop myself and to meet other cultures. Now that I am abroad, all the expectations are met. Studying in another country and with more than 10 different cultures in one group is very special. You do not only see that every culture has its own rituals and values, it is also good to see that especially those differences connect people in a special way. You can really learn from each other and there is always enough to talk about.''

,,Besides that it is also very nice to explore another city. For me, I have never lived in another city than my home town, and although I liked it there very much, this is a good experience. There is so much to explore and when you live for like 5 months in another city, you really get the chance to see everything. It does not feel like a holiday, it really becomes your city. So if you feel like going abroad, just do it! I am very glad that I made this choice!''

Koos de Boer:,,Studying abroad sounds maybe a little bit scary, but that is totally not the point! It is interesting, a good experience and also a lot of fun. When you go abroad, you will not only meet people from that country, but also lots of other countries are represented. This is a perfect chance to get involved with different cultures. You will not only see the differences between the cultures, but also the similarities. And that creates friendships!''

,,Studying in a foreign country means lessons in a foreign language. This is a perfect opportunity to upgrade your vocabulary! It also means living in a foreign city. This is the perfect way to experience how it is to live in another city without your parents/friends! For me, it was the best choice I could make. Brussels is now my hometown and it really feels like that. I am very happy with my choice. If the possibility is there, grab your chance!''

Hugo Hendriks:,,Hi everybody, if you still haven't decided to go abroad for an international semester or a traineeship, I would advise you to change your mind quickly. I had my doubts to at first, however I can tell you that after 3 weeks here in Belgium I'm really glad to be here. It's a total other atmosphere being abroad, even just going to school is different. I've already met a lot of new people, literally from all over the world. I know that sounds cliché, but it's actually true. It's a total new experience for me and I would strongly advise you to do so yourself. However there is a downside: my bank account. But maybe you're more responsible and watch your finances better than I do. If you still don't want to go, that's fine but I know what you're missing!''
